Why Resilience Training?
Pandemic, working from home, family, life, budgets – this year has certainly put the pressure on many of us in a way we have never seen before.
How we faced the year that lay before us was different for each person. No wrong or right. Just different. Because we all have varied levels of resilience.
Resilience is defined as “the mental ability to handle or recover quickly from hardship or change”. However, what is interesting is that we all define and react to hardship and change in differing ways. For the very same situation, one person’s response compared to another can be poles apart.
What happens when you put an egg and a potato in the same pot of boiling water?
Understanding resilience is one thing but knowing how to apply it in day to day life takes mental training. But the great thing is – resilience can be taught! How? Resilience Training.

Resilience in life is just as crucial a tool to succeed as it would be in work and business, any business, but especially sales and leadership, where setbacks and objections are common practice.
RESILIENCE AT WORK
Our resilience is how we adapt and respond. Salesperson A may display signs of reluctance to work, broodiness and negativity after losing a deal they worked very hard on. Salesperson B however, researched what went wrong, changed their approach, and made sure to win the next one.
B’s resilience was already strong and when faced with pressure had the strength to hold up against it. It is not bad news for A – you see it is possible to improve one’s resilience! In fact you can strengthen your resilience just like a muscle. It takes effort and just like any muscle, you need correct focused training for it to grow and get stronger. Building your resilience muscle is no different. Going to the gym for physical fitness is no different to resilience training for mental fitness.
When we teach about resilience in our leadership and sales training, we unpack the entire word:
- What is resilience?
- What does it mean to be resilient?
- Are you resilient?
- What is the difference between pressure and stress?
- Is there such a thing as Good Stress?
- How does the Stop, Start, Continue, Change Model build Resilience?
- What are the traits of a resilient person?

The pandemic and changing workplaces have hit hard on many, but resilience training teaches us to pivot with change and not give up when faced with it.
Could you imagine where the world would be now if Albert Einstein wasn’t resilient?
